Clinical Philosophy
Reclaiming Balance: Our Approach to Counselling in Maple Ridge.
When we experience persistent stress, life transitions, or past trauma, our minds and bodies can become stuck in states of chronic survival. You might experience this as relentless anxiety, emotional exhaustion, physical tension, burnout, or a profound sense of disconnection from yourself and those you love. Traditional talk therapy is highly valuable, but true, lasting healing requires a holistic approach that honors both the mind and the nervous system.
At Healing Quest Counselling, our registered clinical therapists and counsellors move beyond simple coping mechanisms.
We utilize depth-relational and somatic psychotherapies to help you track your body’s signals, relearn safety on the nervous system level, and gently process unresolved pain.
Together, we work at a pace that respects your system's boundaries, fostering a compassionate path toward emotional resilience and authentic self-trust.
Core Specialties
Dedicated Areas of Support & Clinical Expertise
Trauma Therapy & EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Unresolved trauma lives in the body, often showing up as hypervigilance, flashbacks, emotional numbness, or relational wounds. Our trauma-informed therapists specialize in somatic experiencing, polyvagal-informed therapy, and EMDR. These evidence-based modalities allow us to safely process traumatic memories without re-traumatizing your system, helping your nervous system return to a natural state of safety and flow.
Structured Adult (18+) ADHD Assessment
If you suspect you have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, obtaining diagnostic clarity can be a life-altering step toward self-compassion. Under British Columbia regulation, Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs) hold specialized diagnostic authority to diagnose clinical conditions under the DSM-5. We provide rigorous, structured adult ADHD assessments. Our comprehensive process includes a detailed clinical interview, standardized diagnostic measures, and a formal written report complete with personalized recommendations, school/workplace accommodation guidance, and therapeutic next steps.
Neurodivergence-Affirming ADHD & Autism Counselling
Living in a world built for neurotypical brains can lead to profound masking, chronic executive dysfunction, and deep-seated shame. Our neurodivergent- affirming counselling helps youth and adults understand how their unique brains work. We focus on executive functioning coaching, regulating sensory overload, healing relational injuries, and building sustainable, self-compassionate strategies that align with your natural nervous system.
Anxiety and Depression Therapy
Chronic anxiety and depression are often indicators of a nervous system that has spent too long in a state of high alert or deep collapse. We help you map your emotional states, identify underlying patterns, and acquire somatic tools to self-regulate, helping you shift out of fight-or-flight or emotional shutdown and step back into vitality.
Attachment-Focused Couples & Relational Counselling
Healthy relationships require safe connection, yet past wounds can trigger protective patterns that lead to cycles of conflict, withdrawal, or isolation. We work with partners to untangle these defensive loops to cultivate deeper intimacy, repair trust, and build secure communication patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling in Maple Ridge
Compassionate, Evidenced-Based, Licensed Therapists & Counsellors
-
A: Psychologists and Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs) both possess advanced clinical credentials and are authorized under provincial regulation to diagnose clinical psychiatric and mental health conditions under the DSM-5. In contrast, standard Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs), Certified Canadian Counsellors (CCCs), and Registered Social Workers (RSWs) provide therapy and clinical support but do not hold diagnostic authority. At Healing Quest Counselling, our structured adult ADHD assessments are conducted by our RCSW, providing you with a legally recognized diagnostic evaluation at a more accessible rate and with significantly shorter wait times.
-
A: Standard clinical counsellors (RCC/CCC) and standard social workers (RSWs) do not have the authority to diagnose ADHD in BC. However, Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs) are authorized clinical specialists with diagnostic authority. At Healing Quest Counselling, our ADHD assessments are conducted by an RCSW. The resulting formal diagnostic report is accepted by family physicians, psychiatrists, academic institutions for academic accommodations, and workplaces for occupational support.

A: Because healing is an individual journey, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some clients seeking support for a specific life transition or acute challenge find clarity in 6 to 12 sessions. For clients processing deep-seated relational trauma, childhood wounds, or long-standing nervous system dysregulation, therapy is often a longer-term, paced partnership. Your therapist will collaborate with you to create a plan that fits your personal goals and resources.
